Essences form part of a larger worldview of healing which focuses on understanding and favourably altering the subtle energetics of the human system. This means that essences are actually related to other enduring subtle energy healing systems which might look quite different to an observer - such as Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qi Gong, Reiki, and Anthroposophical Medicine, to name but a few.
The early 20th century saw a revival of the ancient practice of healing using essences. Dr. Edward Bach demonstrated the spiritual and emotional healing powers of his beloved Bach flower remedies. His great work reintroduced into the modern world a traditional healing method that was used in many ancient cultures including the Australian aboriginals. Some ancient peoples valued the dew from plants and collected it in the morning. Other ancient peoples absorbed essences from plants and the earth via the soles of their feet as they moved bare-footed across the ground. Dr. Bach’s work has inspired many to characterize flower essences from across the globe. Others have moved laterally and developed essences from other natural objects such as gems and shells.
We at Advanced Alchemy have sought to push forward the frontier of essences even further. By contrast with the conservative view that the field of essences is fully developed, we believe that the history of essences is only just beginning! We not only have sought New Essence Families, from tree bark, roots, shoots, leaves and seeds, and new permutations thereof, but we continually seek new and better understandings with which to ground these new essence families.
